SDN 54 - JAPFA, BANDA ACEH

Story of SDN 54 Banda Aceh Bright morning of Sunday 26 December 2004, all people were aghasted The most western part of Indonesia was shocked by an earthquake followed by a very horrible tsunami This gigantic inundation has severely destroyed existing infrastructures in Aceh. The veranda of Mecca cried as if they have lost their future

This immense calamity has been successful in arousing concern and togetherness among us all When the flood was not yet fully subsided, PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, Tbk. immediately donated Rp 1 billion through Metro TV which collected charity fund for the rehabilitation of Aceh

Besides cash, the company has also delivered aid in the form of food such as biscuits, either directly delivered or through the command post of Aceh established by the Department of Social at Halim Perdana Kusumah Airport.

It did not stop there. In addition to the management, all employees of JAPFA Group & families all over Indonesia have also voluntarily and sincerely collected fund to be used for helping Aceh people.

Besides donation from employees, the committee of JAPFA Cares together with Yayasan Santosa Lestari, a social foundation in the circle of JAPFA Group has launched the program of Gelang Kami Peduli

After the fund has been collected, voting decided that the said fund would be used for educational aid in the form of school construction.

Meetings were immediately held both internally and externally, involving the Department of National Education Jakarta as the National Command Post for coping with Aceh & Nias disaster as well as the party of National Education in Banda Aceh city.

The meetings decided that the survey team would set out for Aceh in the beginning of April 2005 to determine the location of school construction in Banda Aceh. Agreement was achieved to rebuild SDN 80. This school is located at Jl. T. Nyak Arief, Peurada, Subdistrict of Syah Kuala, Banda Aceh, which was totally destroyed by the tsunami. On 13 April 2005, the MOU was signed between JAPFA and National Education Jakarta.

The design of the school building was ready to be realized, consisting of a two-floor building, a house of the school keeper, and a prayer house. At the location of the destroyed school, in the beginning of June 2005 the signboard was fixed characterizing the commencement of construction for SDN 80.

The foundation was prepared optimally to guarantee the strength of this building. The next stages were also carried out in accordance with the master plan already agreed by the building contractor.

Besides preparing the physical building of the school, the committee of JAPFA Cares together with Yayasan Santosa Lestari also prepare educational facilities in the form of tables, chairs, writing boards, teachers’ tables, teaching tools, facilities for the laboratory, a complete unit of computer for administration, the library and its books, sports equipment, as well as bags and uniforms for both students and teachers. Books for library were obtained from the national book center of the Department of National Education in Jakarta.

In November 2005 in the middle of his work visit to Aceh, the Minister of National Education Prof. Dr. Bambang Sudibyo, MBA spared some time to visit the building location of SDN 80 to deliver some of the said book donation. This school which was donated by employees was painted in orange and grey, which are the corporate colors of JAPFA.

It was also equipped with a prayer house built by JAPFA to be utilized together with SDN 54 adjacent to it. At last the construction of this school was finished, spending Rp 1.85 billion.

The D-day has arrived, Wednesday 22 February 2006, SDN 80 – JAPFA Banda Aceh was opened officially by the Mayor of Banda Aceh, Drs. Rajaly Yusuf, with the disclosing of cover by Drs. H Saifudin Abdurahman, the Head of Social Bureau of the Province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam representing the Governor, Mustafa Abubakar.

In this opportunity, additional aid was also delivered symbolically consisting of uniforms, sports equipment, and other learning and teaching tools, including laboratory equipment and a set of computer to the Mayor to be conveyed to the Principal of SDN 80.

With the official opening and functioning of SDN 80, all employees of JAPFA hope that the small donation sincerely provided by them could bring about benefits to the community around the school in particular and in Aceh in general.

Let the grief of tsunami go by and the children of Aceh welcome their new and better future. The school has been erected, the hopes of JAPFA Group employees have been realized, may this SDN 80 can be utilized in optimal manner and able to be a superior school to produce strong, knowledgeable, and faithful cadres of nation in line with the JAPFA’s motto ”Growing towards Mutual Prosperity.”
